The adaptation is based on the novel Memory of the forest by Damir Karakaš, a partly autobiographical story about a boy with a heart condition growing up in rural Lika. While the dramatic situations depict a basic — and often harsh — reality, they are countered by the boy’s inner world of imagination, shaped onstage through live music and sound images created from a variety of objects. This distinctive musical-sonic code gave the play a strong lyrical atmosphere, set in counterpoint to the cruelty of the story itself.
