William Shakespeare
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
Love tested in the darker side of the world.
Premiere: Croatian National Theatre Osijek (2021)
This adaptation of the enchanted-night story aims straight for the heart of the dramatic — and therefore performative — action, shaped onstage through exceptionally fast and dynamic play. Alongside Shakespeare’s “theatre within the theatre” device, several new scenes were created entirely anew through actors’ improvisations. The thematic focus of the play is love, set in stark contrast to the cruelty found not only in the fairy world, but also in the human one — with one crucial difference: the otherworldly realm never hesitates to reveal it.
