The central challenge in staging Allen’s contemporary classic, with its strong psychological drive, was to avoid a “talking heads” realism and instead amplify the dynamic, neurotic states in which the boundary between fiction and fact begins to dissolve. In this way, not only is the comedic rhythm sharpened — allowing the witty dialogue of this humorous drama to fully resonate onstage — but the fast-paced performance style also creates a chaotic yet structured portrait of the world as experienced by the protagonist.
