The story centers on a marital crisis that unfolds after the couple’s children leave home to lead their own adult lives. The father, inclined toward a liberal approach to parenting, has long been looking forward to a new “renaissance” in their marriage. The mother, however, struggles to let go of the idea that their little birds have left the nest, and her overwhelming maternal care makes it difficult for her to embrace a new chapter. Although this adaptation of the story amplifies the humorous elements, it preserves the warmth of the story — an emotional truth in which audiences can easily recognise themselves.
