Based on the fairy tale by Brothers Grimm
RUMPELSTILSKIN
When truth becomes a necessity.
Premiere: Marin Držić Theatre Dubrovnik (2024)
From the sparse and elusive tale by the Brothers Grimm, this adaptation unfolds two kingdoms locked in longstanding conflict: the human realm struck by hardship, and the devastated fairy land. The bridge between them is the greedy Rumpelstilskin, determined to seize control of both worlds. Despite its live-sung songs and picture-book-like visuals, the play carries a strong dramatic tone, allowing the lesson of taking responsibility for one’s actions to rise clearly to the surface.
The play was awarded two Croatian Theatre Awards – Best actor & Best costume design.
