Based on the fairy tale by Brothers Grimm
HANSEL AND GRETEL
From poverty to happiness – a journey of growing-up.
Premiere: Puppet Theatre Niš (2025)
This adaptation combines live acting with table and rod puppets. Its key dramaturgical twist merges the Witch and the Stepmother into one figure – the Witch. She, having eaten all the village’s children and hungry for more, infiltrates the woodcutter’s home in disguise to lure Hansel and Gretel into her forest. Live-action scenes portray the human world, while the puppetry sequences reveal the Witch’s manipulation: having enchanted the children into “little people” – puppets – she aims to make them an easier prey.
