J. B. P. Molière
the miser
Where greed rules, the human heart becomes the greatest loss.
Premiere: National Theatre Tuzla (2023)
The Miser is so clearly about money that, from today’s perspective, it seems to speak even more strongly about everything money is not — the immaterial things our world chronically lacks. For that reason, and in line with Goethe’s observation that The Miser is, at its core, a tragedy, this adaptation focuses primarily on human relationships damaged by the devastating force of money, which makes the world go round. Within a play labelled as a comedy, this opens a complex dramatic layer.
