2026 THE CHERRY ORCHARD

A. P. Chekhov

the cherry orchard

Premiere: Slovene National Theatre Nova Gorica (2026)

Chekhov’s final masterpiece is often read as a drama of social change, yet this adaptation places its strongest focus on the fragile relationships between its characters. The cherry orchard becomes a space of encounters, departures, memories and transformation. Restructured through a series of dynamic dramatic situations, the performance intensifies the emotional undercurrents and subtle conflicts of the original text. Built in a predominantly comic rhythm, with strong contrasts emerging through moments of dramatic stillness, it explores the fragile space where humour and loss exist side by side.
